About Mech Fitness — The Story Behind GripShell
We got tired of choosing between sweaty gloves and slipping hands.
Mech Fitness started the way most honest products do: with a problem that wouldn't go away.
Every session, the same choice. Wear gloves — and lose the feel of the bar inside a damp, bulky layer that needs washing twice a week. Or go bare — and feel a heavy dumbbell start to rotate mid-set because your palms are sweating.
Neither option is grip. Both are compromises. So we stopped compromising and started engineering.
Designed like a component, not an accessory
We approached the problem the way engineers approach any interface: the contact point between your hand and the bar is where force is won or lost. Fabric absorbs sweat and shifts under load. Skin slips. What was missing was a fixed, textured, non-porous surface that stays exactly where you put it.
That became GripShell: a hex-textured sleeve in engineering-grade polymer that locks onto dumbbells, barbells and pull-up bars in seconds. It doesn't trap sweat, odour or grime the way glove fabric does — it wipes clean and it's ready for the next set.
We went through more prototypes than we'd like to admit. Early versions gripped the bar but felt harsh on the hand. Others felt great and slid under a heavy row. The version you can buy today is the one that finally did both — and it's the only one we were willing to put our name on.
Made properly, priced honestly
GripShell is designed for UK lifters and manufactured in Türkiye, at a facility that specialises in precision-moulded polymer components. We chose the factory for one reason: they could hold the tolerances our design needed. We inspect every batch before it ships, and we're upfront about where and how our product is made — because a brand you can't trace is a brand you can't trust.
